About Online Learning

Teaching with Moodle

Moodle Course Design

Moodle  (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) is the product of a dissertation by Martin Dougiamas (2001). It belongs to the new generation of freeware Open Source (improvable by users) Learning Management Systems (LMS), including Haiku, WiZiQ and others. Moodle is one of the most popular and user-friendly of these LMS and is particulalry promising from the point of view of innovative learning and teaching. An indication of its success, Moodle has been translated into 78 languages and is being used around the world in 209 countries in universities (2.7 million courses), schools and by 1.9 million independent teachers. There are more than 30.4 million registered users! The numbers change every day. See statistics at moodle.org/stats/

If you want more info, here is a published summary of my presentation "Technology Enhanced Teaching and Learning to Promote Student (Teacher) Success" delivered at the Faculty Resource Network in San Francisco in November, 2008.
